Group Hug

textile, lumber, 6'x6', 2021

outdoor site-specific sculpture  for the Grand Rapids Center for Transformation that creates a temporary community gathering space where we can reflect, meditate, be together, have conversations with friends or strangers, hug each other, laugh together, and enjoy each other's company.

Inspired by a series of drawings done each day during lock-down-- we dreamt about being amongst people again, and sometimes that day we just needed a hug. This sculpture is meant to feel like visitors are being wrapped in a big, colorful hug. We aim to feel a sense of connection to those around us, our environment and the universe, with a felt sense of harmony and well being.

The dimensions of this sculpture are a play on the 6 foot social distancing number we have adapted to and live within. This structure will be made with textile and wood. Made Arrangement may engage visitors with conversation topics or include a sound element.
